Safety Factor
A design principle that provides additional strength beyond the minimum required to handle expected loads, serving as a margin of safety against part failure. It represents the ratio between the actual strength of a component or structure and the maximum expected load or stress. This extra capacity accounts for uncertainties in material properties, manufacturing tolerances, unexpected loads, and potential wear, ensuring reliable and safe performance over time.
