Description:

This track has had an interesting life with it being in and out of operation multiple times and changing the configuration as well.
It opened in 1952 as a 1/2 mile dirt track and it didn’t come with huge fan fare but in 1954 it had its most historical event.
They won a round of the 1954 NASCAR Grand nationals series. This was significant as it was the first and only time that the major NASCAR series ran in Kentucky until the event last year.
Lee Petty was the winner and the track was able to gain a round as a promotor new a driver, who spoke to some people and they slipped in a race. That sort of thing.
After that season, the track closed down for some reason and didn’t reopen for a number of years.
It did run a few season through the 60s but then once again closed down. In 1973 it reopened as a 1/4 mile paved track under the name of Corbin Motor Speedway.
The track had its ups and downs, again it closed and reopened as was renamed Corbin Raceway Park. Finally it finished up in 2012 but there are hopes it will be reopened once again next year.
